Content marketing proposal template

Content retainers lose clients when the output is hard to see. This template makes it visible. A strategy line sets the topic plan and the search term each article targets, a monthly line states the number of articles and their length, and a report closes the loop. The client knows what arrives each month and how you will judge it.

What your client receives

How to scope and price it

  • State the word count and the number of articles per month, four at 1,200 to 1,500 words here. It avoids the argument about what counts as an article.
  • Charge for the strategy. The topic plan is the most reusable thing you produce, and it is the reason the articles are chosen, not guessed.
  • Say what you need from the client. Articles need subject-matter input, and a delay on their side should move the delivery date, not the invoice.
  • Report on enquiries as well as traffic. A retainer is easier to renew when the client can see what the articles brought in.

The terms, and why

A three-month minimum is realistic for content, because articles take time to be found. Billing in advance covers your writing time, and the line about checking every claim against a source gives the client a reason to trust the work. Results depend on the site and the competition, so the terms promise a process rather than a ranking.
