Marketing website redesign

Prepared by

Your business

Prepared for

Client

Overview

Redesign and rebuild the five main pages of the client's website so visitors can find each service, see what it costs and send a booking request from a phone.

Objectives

  • Make the site easy to use on a phone
  • Explain each service with a clear price range
  • Add an online booking request form

Deliverables

  • Five designed pages: Home, Services, About, Pricing and Contact
  • A booking request form that emails the client
  • Page titles and descriptions for search on every page
  • One training session on how to edit the content

Timeline

Pages built and ready for reviewEnd of week 4

Out of scope

  • Copywriting and photography (the client supplies both)
  • Hosting and domain fees
  • Maintenance after the 30-day support period

Assumptions

  • The client gives feedback within three business days
  • All content is supplied before design starts
  • Two rounds of design changes are included

Acceptance

A deliverable is accepted when the client confirms in writing that it matches this scope. Any issues are listed and fixed before acceptance.

Changes to the scope

Any change to this scope is written down, priced and agreed before the work is done.

Price and payment

Fixed price of $6,500. 40% to start, 30% at design approval, 30% at launch.

What makes a scope of work hold

A scope is there for the day someone says "I thought that was included". These six habits make that day short.

  1. Deliverables are things, not activities

"Design the website" is an activity. "Five designed pages: Home, Services, About, Pricing and Contact" is a deliverable. A client can check a deliverable, so a dispute has less room to start.

  2. Write what is out of scope

Most scope arguments are about work the client assumed was included. List the usual assumptions that are not: photography, hosting, extra rounds of changes, work after a support period.

  3. Tie dates to milestones

A single end date hides where a project is. Three or four milestones show progress, and each one is a natural point for feedback and for a payment.

  4. State your assumptions

Dates and price hold only if the client gives feedback on time and supplies content before work starts. Say so. When an assumption breaks, the scope has already told both sides what happens next.

  5. Define acceptance

Say how a deliverable counts as finished: the client confirms in writing that it matches the scope. Without it, finished is whatever the client feels like that week.

  6. Decide how changes work

One sentence is enough: any change is written down, priced and agreed before the work is done. It lets you say yes to a good idea without absorbing the cost.

What goes in the scope for your kind of work

A starting list per field. The details are yours to write; these are the parts that tend to be left out.

Construction and trades
Deliverables by stage (demolition, rough-in, finish), allowances for materials, permits and inspections, hidden-damage exclusion, site access hours
Web and design
Pages or screens delivered, number of design rounds, content supplied by the client, browsers and devices covered, a support period after launch
Marketing and consulting
Reports and workshops delivered, meeting cadence, access the client provides, who approves what, what happens when a priority changes
Cleaning and field services
Areas and visit frequency, tasks per visit, supplies, access and keys, what counts as an add-on, how a missed visit is handled
